Tilt or buttons? Picking controls in mobile racers
Every time we review a racing game, the same fight breaks out in the editorial chat: tilt steering or on-screen buttons. So we spent a week playing the same tracks with both.
Tilt feels more immersive and, honestly, cooler. For long sweeping corners it's great. The problem is fine braking and small corrections, where your whole phone becomes the controller and precision suffers.
Buttons win for anything technical. In games like Dust Circuit, we consistently posted better lap times with buttons because braking into a drift is a deliberate act, not a wrist twitch.
Our advice: try tilt first because it's fun, but if you're actually chasing times, switch to buttons. Most decent racers let you rebind and resize them, so spend two minutes in the settings before you complain the controls are bad.
